Dear David Chang,
I know you’re not looking to expand outside the city of New York, but if you do, could you please consider Baltimore? Ignoring the monopoly that Cindy Wolf has over this city, it would be nice if someone daring enough to bring asian street food to the front lines of culinary culture, would set up shop here. We would embrace it. Damnit, we would pay homage to it.
I suppose this whine is of no interest to you, because why leave the heart of the world’s greatest city? Because there is not a single praise-worthy Chinese restaurant here. (Seriously– we have to LEAVE this city and go into suburbia for anything resembling chinese food, most of which is drenched in “brown” sauce.) The majority so-called Chinese restaurants are afraid too afraid to shock the american-pallet, but I say: if you have something that no one else has, they will come. And since no one else serves pork buns here (or dim sum, for that matter) we would come. And worship.
And yes, Korean options would also be viable, but there’s a lot of Korean here. I’ll take you if you want to check it out.
I know it’s a long shot. But if I don’t try, I can’t say I tried!
Damnit… I forgot to mention the PF Changs!
Go to DC, next to the MCI center and try Zenga. It’s not “authentic” but it is Asian, fishy, refreshing and new. I really enjoyed it. I’m told it’s a relatively new addition down there. I ate ther during my September visit.
